Students explore the field, forest and stream to discover native animals. They examine animal structures and discuss how these structures relate to life functions such as breathing, eating, protection and reproduction. Further exploration centers on how the plants and animals work together with other factors to compose an ecosystem. Games and activities reinforce concepts taught on the hike.

Organisms First Grade Program
Field trips to the Fair Hill Nature Center are designed to complement the Cecil County Public School's Life Science Curriculum. During the program first graders are introduced to Fair Hill habitats and the plants and animals that live here. The program focuses on the survival needs of organisms and how they are designed to meet these basic needs. Students will hike through field and forest habitats and visit a stream in search of the things their organisms need to survive. Sensory activities and role playing take place along the way.
