Hard Bargain Farm Overnight Field Study
The three major concepts that are taught during your trip to Hard Bargain Farm are watershed, biodiversity and adaptations, and cycles. Located on the Potomac River, students will see a watershed up close and personal, and learn how the land use decisions of our working farm influence the watershed. The core curriculum for field studies is comprised of the Habitat Hike and Farm Life Exploration programs. Throughout the hike and on the farm, students will make observations of biodiversity and how certain species of plants and animals have adapted to these ecosystems. Students will also study the energy cycle by identifying producers, consumers and decomposers in food chains and food webs.

Flag Ponds Nature Park School Programs
Come to Flag Ponds to explore how nature has reshaped the Chesapeake Bay shoreline over time. Millions of years ago, sharks, whales, crocodiles and other creatures inhabited the waters and shores of this area. Sharp-eyed students can hunt for sharks teeth and other Miocene fossils along the park's shoreline. From the early 1900's until 1955 the area supported a major "pound net" fishery supplying croaker, trout and herring to markets as far away as Baltimore. One "Buoy Hotel" that housed fishermen during the main season contains an exhibit on the Bay's old-time fishing industry. The park is also home to observation platforms at two ponds, a fishing pier on the Chesapeake Bay and a visitor's center with wildlife displays.
