Introduction to Environmental Education
(7th grade – college) Maximum Group Size: 30 Cost: $3 per student Trip Length: 1.5 hours Seasons: Fall & Spring Learn how to make science come alive through an outdoor field trip. Discuss how to effectively use the resources of a nature center, how to prepare yourself and your students for a field trip, as well as experience an outdoor walk involving hands-on, environmental games and activities. Recommended for college majors in natural sciences, education, psychology, and other related areas.

Maple Sugaring
Maximum Group Size: 50 Cost: $3 per student Trip Length: 1 hour (age 4 – K) 1.5 hours (1st – college) Month: February only Sugar making has been an early spring activity for centuries. This program focuses on teaching students how to recognize maple trees, how sap moves within trees, and how the sap is collected and made into syrup and candy. This program complements many Baltimore County units such as Animals and Plants (K),Exploring Animals (2nd), and Origins(4th). Note: Program length varies with age (see above).

Introduction to Birds
Maximum Group Size: 50 Cost: $4 per student Trip Length: 2 hours, morning only Seasons: Fall & Spring An indoor presentation (featuring both live and stuffed birds, nests and feathers) will introduce the unique adaptations of birds in comparison with other vertebrates. During a walk along the Center’s trails, students will conduct a bird census and record observations of behaviors, flight patterns, field marks, and habitats.

Wild Animal Survey
Maximum Group Size: 50 Cost: $4 per student Trip Length: 2 hours Seasons: Fall & Spring Animal adaptations, survival and the challenges of habitat competition will be highlighted during an indoor presentation featuring both live and stuffed animals. Students will then walk through a variety of ecosystems, conduct a habitat assessment, and participate in activities that illustrate the cycles of energy and interactions of plants and animals. This program complements the Baltimore County 4th grade unit 4 Eco Scouts.

Seasonal Changes
Maximum Group Size: 50 Cost: $3 per student Trip Length: 1.5 hours Seasons: Fall & Spring Plants and animals adjust their growth and activities based on seasonal changes in light and temperature. This field trip encourages youngsters to explore (using all of their senses) the natural events characteristic of the current season. Fall topics include migration, seed dispersal, insects and how animals prepare for winter. Spring topics include bird nesting, flower pollination, seed germination and the emergence of new plant leaves. This program complements the Baltimore County 1st grade unit Eco-Explorers.
