Collaborations on the Coast
February 28 - March 1, 2015
Bald Head Island Conservancy
Bald Head Island, NC
The Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association would like to invite formal and non-formal educators from across the region to venture to beautiful Bald Head Island from February 28th-March 1st, 2015. What better place to immerse yourself in environmental education than an island that not only boasts pristine examples of salt marsh, beach, and maritime forest, but is also surrounded by a community that subscribes to sustainable living?
Hosted by the BHI Conservancy, a 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to barrier island conservation, preservation, and education, this conference will provide opportunities for teachers of all kinds to bring sea turtles, citizen science, and new techniques into their respective classrooms. Climate change tools, STEM, and volunteer programs are just a few of the exciting topics that will be covered in round table discussions.
Conference activities will also include bird watching, a green building tour, stargazing, and a nocturnal island adventure. Dinner, breakfast, and light snacks will be provided.
Registration
$25 per person for current MAMEA members includes conference, ferry travel, lodging and food
$35 per person for renewing or non-members includes a 1 year MAMEA membership, conference ferry travel, lodging and food
Accommodations are provided by the BHI Conservancy. The first 22 registrants will be provided with bunk bed sleeping space. Additional registrants may select an indoor floor camping option. Linens including bath towels, fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillow, pillow case, and blanket will be provided.
