Green History Summer Teacher Institute at the National Colonial Farm

This course, based on the award-winning Eco-Explorers: Colonial Time Warp school program at the National Colonial Farm in Accokeek, MD, will assist teachers in navigating the Maryland Environmental Literacy standards, MWEE (Meaningful Watershed Education Experience) requirements, and environmental science content.

From June 26th-30th, teachers will work with Accokeek Foundation staff in order to develop post-visit curriculum including a MWEE, which will be implemented in or near their classrooms during the next school year in conjunction with a field trip to the National Colonial Farm at Piscataway Park. Accokeek Foundation staff will provide support to participating teachers during the implementation process and partial funding for field trips during the 2017 fall semester is included for all participating teachers. A $300 stipend will be offered to participants.

2nd-5th grade school teachers and teaching staff from public or private schools in Maryland are eligible for this professional development opportunity. Accokeek Foundation is looking for innovative curriculum designers with a passion for environmental science or colonial history (or both!) and an interest in cross-curricular instruction. Teachers from schools that are applying for or renewing Green School status are strongly encouraged to apply!
