Growing Healthy Schools Month
This September, the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (DC OSSE) is celebrating Growing Healthy Schools Month, encouraging schools to educate kids on nutrition, exercise, outdoor learning, and emphasizing how the adoption of these habits can pave the road for lifelong health and wellness. Proper nutrition, exercise, and time spent outdoors have been scientifically proven to boost productivity in the classroom in addition to improved physical and mental health so this is an excellent opportunity for schools to implement and support existing programs that achieve these outcomes. Explore local produce options, learn healthy recipes, enhance your school’s natural landscape, and experiment with taking your kids outside for a lesson.
