The eastern United States is under a deep freeze as I write this. What role does climate change play and how can you help your students understand this complex topic?
We invite Delaware and Maryland educators to participate in an exciting professional development opportunity designed to help you bring climate change into the classroom. The 2015 MADE CLEAR Climate Science Academy will provide up-to-date science information, model lessons and activities, and practical experience as you prepare to introduce climate change to your students.

The Climate Science Academy will use a blended learning approach, incorporating in-person sessions, interactive webinars, and independent group and individual work. The sessions will take place April-August 2015, preparing you to teach climate change in the 2015-16 school year. A $600 stipend is available to classroom teachers who participate in all Academy sessions and activities.

Model lessons will be presented at the middle school level and admission preference will be given to middle school teachers. As Delaware progresses in its science curriculum review, we anticipate that the Academy will be of particular interest to 8th grade science teachers there. Recognizing that science practice is often cross-curricular, we will consider applications from other educators working in teams to support climate change learning. In particular, we welcome applications from engineering teachers, librarians, and informal educators. We ask all our participants to create a plan that they will use to incorporate climate change lessons into their 2015-16 school year.
