MAEOE 2015 conference logoThe Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) encourages, engages and empowers the community to understand, responsibly use and promote the natural world. MAEOE provides Professional Development and resources to support providers of environmental education in schools, nature centers, and informal settings throughout the state, who encourage students to explore, investigate and act. Environmental actions improve the health of the schools and communities in which Maryland’s children learn and live.

Join MAEOE at there 30th annual meeting in Ocean City, MD on Feb. 5-8th. Some of the agenda highlights, include….

- Keynote speaker J. Drew Lanham. Drew is a native of Edgefield, South Carolina and a Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University where he teaches and conducts research in the areas of wildlife management, land and conservation ethic and field ornithology. Drew has been at Clemson University 17 years and is an award-winning teacher and researcher. A lifelong naturalist, birder and passionate hunter, he speaks extensively on natural resources conservation to professional and lay audiences alike with a focus on blending science and motivating others to passionately observe and conserve the flora and fauna of his beloved southern landscape. He is an award-winning broadcaster as a co-host of a popular birding and natural history show aired through the Clemson University’s Your Day format on SC ETV Public Radio.

- Professional Development Opportunities
• Wilderness First Aid Class for those who want to be prepared for the unexpected. This two day course runs all day Thursday and Friday and provides certification good for two years.
• Thursday full day sessions: Project Wet with a focus on climate change, background information, activities and two curriculum guides of vetted activities to engage students of all ages; Climate Change Messaging: Framing Tips and Tricks; Flight of the Monarch, a nationally acclaimed program brought to you by the Monarch Lab at the University of Minnesota.
• Thursday Half Day workshops occur in the afternoon and include in-depth workshops on: Oysters! The Fun, The Facts, and the Fantasy; Streams 101; Soils, Composting and Worms…Oh My; and Storm Water Management at Your School.
• Friday workshops include a packed schedule of full day and half day offerings and cover a wide variety of topics with something for everyone.
• A Friday Field Experience with a visit and tour of the Horn Point Oyster and Fish Hatchery which is the site of MAEOE’s first annual conference.

- Conference Scholarship - The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) has established a Conference Scholarship program to assist high school and college students, classroom teachers, and beginning (1-2 years experience) outdoor center educators attend the annual conference. Annual scholarship funds are derived from the previous year’s conference Silent Auction. As such, the amount of funds varies each year.
